How to Prepare for a Video Interview (Digital Interviewing Guide)

  • 21st Jun'21

Today, when it comes to hiring decisions, employers and recruiters are keen on conducting video interviews to streamline their recruiting process. Most prefer to take advantage of the digital interview format as it helps them to evaluate the candidate’s skills, personality, and aptitude better. So, what is a digital interview, you may ask, and how to prepare for a video interview, especially when there is a virtual career fair taking place?

Digital Interview

Unlike virtual interviews, digital interviews are slightly different because you don’t necessarily have to talk face-to-face (virtually). Here, most likely, you will ask questions by a robot or a chatbot, and you’ll have to record your answers for it. Things are just like usual video interviews that can be equally nerve-wracking. Therefore, here are a few tips to help you prepare for such answer interview questions.

How to Prepare for a Video Interview

Have your Set up Ready Beforehand

Your Setup should ensure that you have an interview space with proper lighting. Your device webcam should be working correctly and should have a strong internet connection. Also, keep a glass of water nearby to help yourself during the interview.

Go Prepared

It would be best if you never went to your interviews without preparation. The best way to prepare is to practice, practice, and practice. Practice will not only boost your confidence but will increase your chance of getting through the interview smoothly. So, practice with someone who has experience with video interviews or one you can trust for honest feedback. Also, try to figure out the questions you may ask, such as “Why do you want to work here?” Prepare according to that.

End the Interview with Some Question of your Own

Once the interview is over, you must try to end the meeting on a positive note. The best way to do it is by asking some simple but effective questions such as “When can I expect a response?” or you can send a “thank note” mail for the opportunity provided, just as it is explained in this article.
