Be A Leader...Not Just A Boss

  • 18th Jun'21

Who are leaders?

Who makes them?

Do you think all bosses can be good leaders?

Well, that’s a tricky question. You feel fantastic when you get promoted to a managerial position. You have waited for this position for so long.

With this new responsibility and position, now it is up to you to decide whether you want to become a good leader or just remain a boss.

Remember, all leaders can be bosses, but not all bosses can be good leaders. To be one, you need to learn lessons in leadership

As Nelson Mandela rightly said, “A leader. . . is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.”

Invariably one question pops up in your mind,

How do I differentiate between a boss and a leader?

Difference between a Leader and a Boss

  • A Leader Supports, Boss Commands

You become a good leader when you support your colleagues and not command them. A boss just gives instructions and leaves it for the staff to deal with it. You are a true leader. So, Support your team to achieve targets.

  • A Leader Inspires

Your ways to tackle issues and work are an inspiration for your team. Inspire them by your qualities and try to inculcate these qualities in them. The more you inspire them, the more they are in awe of you. You become a leader who has a solution to all the problems, unlike a boss who just waits for a result.

  • Leader uses team's abilities to achieve goals

And that this…..he uses others abilities to accomplish a shared goal. To be a desirable leader, you have to know the capabilities of all your team members individually. You value your team and your team values you. Also, you should know how to handle a dominant team member.

Like Gift Gugu Mona, a South African poet, philosopher, songwriter, and philanthropist, say, “Great leaders never look down upon those who look up to them.”

  • Leader Connects

You know…..a team very easily emotionally connects to a good leader than a boss. Your team is your strength, and it remains in unity. Connect with your team strongly to maintain its unity.

Therefore, to become a good leaer, first understand what is leadership and how can I lead? It’s never too late to begin… Brace yourself to become one of the best leaders a team has ever had in your organization.
